There are approximately 3.7 million out-of-school-children (OOSC) in Afghanistan. Significantly, 60.0% of OOSC are girls, and in some provinces as many as 85% of girls are out-of-school. Additionally, it is estimated that 95% of children with disabilities do not attend school. There are multiple reasons for this situation, including poverty, damaged and inadequate numbers of classrooms, shortage of teachers (especially female teachers) and relevant learning and teaching resources, lack of inclusive facilities at schools, cultural norms which deprioritize education for girls and long distances to schools for many children. Continuity of education is another significant problem, with many girls and boys unable to progress from one stage of study to the next largely due to capacity limitations in the formal hub schools. All of these challenges have been exacerbated by the protracted emergency situation, combined with the prevalence of natural disasters and climate change impacts and resulting dislocation of populations.

The Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Facilitated Multi-Year Program (MYP) will target the most vulnerable displaced populations in Afghanistan, with a particular focus on girls and IDP and returnee refugee communities. Interventions will improve access to education through community based and innovative approaches; create an inclusive teaching and learning environment for emergency affected girls and boys; improve continuity of education by facilitating opportunities for students to transition to from lower to higher grades; improve the quality of learning; and create safer and more protective learning environments. The MYP links humanitarian Education in Emergencies (EiE) programming with the mid and longer-term development objectives for the sector. By effectively bridging the humanitarian-development divide the strategic intention is to: a) catalyze recovery, b) help implement Afghanistan’s new Community-Based Education Policy and c) promote continuity of education. The program will target 500,000 children annually.

Global Partnership for Education: Considering the nature of the problem, GPE programs “Provide access to education for emergency-affected children in Afghanistan” and “Continuity of Education for COVID-19 Emergency-affected Children in Afghanistan” aim is to ensure Emergency-affected Out of School Children (OOSC) in Hard to Reach (HTR) areas have access to quality learning provided in community-based centers (CBCs) as well as  Established Community Based Education (CBEs) are ready with the resources, information and materials they need to mitigate and respond to COVID-19.

Position holder will be responsible for:
• To clean the related office (inside and outside) and office furniture and equipment on daily basis.
• To wash the office of the MHI daily or whenever required and to clean the doors, windows and glasses when required
• To turn on and off the water pump for filling the tank of the related building/office when needed and look after the safety of the water pump
• To check and look after the toilets/bathrooms and its needs i.e., toilet paper, brushes, cleaning powder and soap etc. and report any problems immediate
• To take away the garbage of the related office on daily basis and burn the waste printed papers at the place prepared for it on daily basis
• Helping cook while serving lunch and other laundry related miscellaneous tasks
• To turn off all the lights and unplug forgotten heater/AC of the rooms before off time
• To assist office colleagues in carrying or moving office document or equipment within the MHI office when needed and specially during moving process from one premises to another
• To turn on/off kerosene heater/wood used heaters on daily basis
• Any other activities assigned by the direct/in-direct supervisor

 

Job Requirements:
  • At least basic school
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Fluent in Dari and Pashto
  • Be flexible and accountable for his/her given responsibilities.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Be able to communicate with staff properly.
