About the Company

The world was still suffering from the wounds inflicted on it by the Second World War in February 1949, when the first session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean was held in Cairo. The historic first session then reflected the vision and commitment of eleven countries with common ideals, heritage, and ambitions to work together in a special partnership and begin to create a better world for generations to come. Over the years, the exceptional spirit of cooperation and collaboration that has formed the relationship between the WHO and its Member States in the Eastern Mediterranean Region has led to landmark achievements that have brought health and hope to every corner of the region.
